Hospitality This!

Damn, I’m getting texts from Hammer - he’s calling my freestyle ass out.  Nice wink I love a chance to show some netters what’s up.

OK, hot off the wire, err… text message… sounds like a little mud wrestling going on in Memphis.  Somehow I doubt the kind anyone wants to see though.  Anyway, twas a green final with John and Cory taking out Mike ‘Now You See Me Now Now You Don’t’ McCarthy and Jeremy ‘Soon To Be Chaos’ Mirken.  Score: 15-5, 15-9.

Sounds like there were some Memphis casualties at the feet of Chaos along the way too.  The Hammer and Tommy fell 14-16 to John and Cory in the pool.  Ben and Walt - who wink - were disposed of in the semis 11-6, 11-4.

What’s with one game pools and 11 points semis?  Must be the weather.

Direct quote from Mr Johnny Leys - ‘Def Cool scene here’.

All @~&*! talk aside, hope I get to see some of the Memphis crew in Orlando, or better yet - at The Green Cup.  I’d like to get to the Southeastern.  Next year perhaps.  You guys got a freestyle event or what?

Southern Hospitality

Jersey John, aka Chaos #4, may be the lone Chaos representative in Memphis at this weekend’s Southeastern Net Championships.  I say he only ‘may’ be Chaos lonely because I’ve heard rumors that ‘The Specialist’ Jeremy Mirken may be joining the Chaos ranks and he is also representing in Memphis this weekend.

John is playing singles and also teaming up with ‘Chaos’ Cory Current in Open Dubs.  Cory is honorary Chaos for the weekend - if he’ll have us that is grin.  Kick some Southern @~*! guys!

At least partly due to the efforts of Matthew A. Johns and crew, footbag net seems to be experiencing a resurgence down South same as it is in many areas of the world.  Very cool!  My guess is that famous southern hospitality is left on the sidelines though.

Hopefully #4, or Jeremy - Chaos #?, will report in on that and with some of this weekend’s highlights.

L'Hivernal 2007

This weekend’s L’Hivernal footbag net tournament in Montreal, QC, CA marks the beginning of the competitive footbag season in North America.  There are many stories to tell.  Perhaps some of the participants can contribute with comments or send me an with your story and I’ll post it.

Anyway, here’s the nitty gritty and a bit of my perspective on what it means in the big picture.

First, Gilles Demers won Open Singles defeating Yves Archambault in the final in two closely fought games 16-14, 15-9.  Finishing in 3rd was Francois Depatie-Pelletier and in 4th position, Russ Arsenault.

In Open Doubles Emmanuel Bouchard and Robert Lavigne defeated Chaos #4 and #5, John Leys and Eric Wulff, 15-10, 15-12 for the Championship.  Finishing 3rd was the team of Gilles and Francois Pelletier followed by Patrick Asswad and Samuel Cloutier in 4th position.  Both semi-final matches were battles.  Manu and Bob squeaked out a straight set victory over Gilles and Francois 17-15, 15-13, while team Chaos came out on top of their 3rd see-saw battle of the weekend defeating Patrick Asswad and Samuel Cloutier 15-9, 10-15, 15-8.

But Get It Right

Keep It Simple Stupid - continued

chaos footbag: keep it simple, get it rightSo, use straight scoring and rank all players 1st through last for every session.  Depending on the players, ranking teams may work better.

Then start the session by putting the #1 ranked team VS the #2 on court A, 3 VS 4 on court B, etc.  This way comparable teams play each other from the start.

Winner moves up, from court B to court A for example, and loser moves down.

That’s it!

No wait, there’s more.  wink The secret ingredient…

Patrick Schrickel is Chaos #8

chaos footbag: Chaos #8Unless of course there’s any major objection from David ‘Big D Retired’ Butcher, in which case Schrickel is Chaos #8 for now and will soon be Chaos #something else.

So, first he gets his hands on The Cup and now this.  He gave us a check last week and it cleared just today, so now we have to let him in wink .  The current Open Doubles World Champion may now also be known as Chaos #8.

Didn’t I already say that?

Anyway, that means that even when he’s attempting to defend his Open Doubles World Championship with his ‘non-Chaos but we love you anyway’ partner, Florian Goetze, both of them must wear green underwear, otherwise Schrickel’s membership is void, hah!  Beware Schrickel, cause we can tell every time one of you does one of those fancy sole dinks cheese .
