World Champions Again!
I’m too tired to write just now. Doubles Championship Saturday lived up to the hype and more. Patrick and Florian are Champions again and Gilles and Franky are perhaps the best silver medal team in Open Doubles history.
Chaos brings home a 3rd World Championship - PT and Jody in Mixed Doubles - and has 6 core players in the top 8 open teams finishing in 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 8th - more players than any other club :o.
What a great week! Thanks to everyone who came out to support the event! I can’t thank our net staff enough - everyone simply kicked ass all week! Of course, it’s nothing without the players an Thanks So Much to all the those who took the time to travel all the way to Oakland from around the country and the world and thx to all the local players for hosting them. You made it a fantastic week!
Check out the ‘WFC - Everything Net’ link above. I updated it with photos of all the brackets in all nine categories. I think we got em all.
Here’s a link to them and another album on picasa…

Finnish It!
Tuomas Karki is the man and Finland has their first World Championship! Tuomas and Florian battled for nearly an hour and a half in the Open Singles Net Championship match last night and Tuomas had just a bit too much for Flo on this night. I don’t remember the scores but I think the last game was 15-13. It was the last match of the night and the previous two were tough acts to follow. These guys did not disappoint. Everybody that came to watch stayed til the sweet sweet Finnish - yes I’m gonna see how many times I can punnish this Finnish word play game
.
Once again, time is tight so I’m gonna stop making ambitious promises for what I’ll post. Suffice it to say - you’ll have a complete story with brackets and results soon.
The Gilles and Franky clinic was on last night and they’re going to the championship against… Florian and Patrick. Gilles and Franky were on this Friday night and they’re looking to push the defending champions hard. PT and Manu put on quite a show as only they can but it just wasn’t enough this time.
John Leys and Tuomas Karki were oh so close to the upset of the tournament so far. Perhaps a bit closer than the 3rd game score which I believe was 15-12. Chaos #4 and #0 took game 1 15-12 or 13 and this match was played at such a high level from both sides - yep… it’s one of those matches where neither team deserved to lose. But one of em deserved to win for sure and The Rock - Florian Goetze and Patrick Schrickel. They always seem to raise their level when they must so let’s see it one more time tonight!! Florian and Patrick - The New Establishment VS Gilles and Franky - Montreal 3.0 for the title.
Don’t forget… we also have the great pleaure of witnessing Genevieve Bousquet and Jody Welch twice tonight as each of them are vying for 2 world championships. They will face each other in Women’s Doubles and also in Mixed Doubles. Also, on the card for this evening - PT Lovern - Chaos #3 - is looking for his first Mixed Doubles title to go along his Open Doubles World Championships from 2004 and 2008. Lisa McDaniel and Julie Symons are competing against each other and both seeking their umpteenth Women’s Doubles championship. Luc Legault is the only competitor on the court tonight who doesn’t have a World Championship but you better believe he has all the skills and motivation to change that.
It’s Doubles Net Championship Saturday at The 2010 World Footbag Championships! We’ll see you tonight for the Grand Finnale! $10 for a good cause - The IFPA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Reality Show!
A picture speaks a thousand words, eh? Well, I don’t have one nor the time for a thousand words. I know, you’re thankful for the latter no doubt. Here’s the deal…
Open Doubles - check our seeding via WFC - Everything Net above - the top 8 are IN. Figure the quarterfinals from that. 1 v 8, 2 v 7, 3 v 6, 4 v 5 tonight at 6pm at the Oakland Convention Center at the Marriott City Center.
Open Singles - check our seeding via WFC - Everything Net above - the top 4 are IN. We’ll have a Fin in the finals of the World Championships for the first time ever I believe and it’s long over due. NICE!
I’ll try to get pics of the beautiful brackets Johnny has printed up and on the walls of the convention center uploaded to chaosfootbag today so anyone who wants can see the entire competitive progression. Sorry, I’ve just been way to busy to get it up here before today.
Ok, it’s showtime - quarters thursday, semis friday, for the world championship on Saturday Night. Doubles events anyway. Does anything else really matter?

The 2010 World Footbag Championships
More than you’d ever need to know as a player or spectator is right here. Errrr, or can be accessed via the links in ‘What’s Up’ above (see World Championships | WFC General Net Schedule | WFC - Everything Net).
Want to see your seed? What pool are you in? Who are you playing in your opening match? It’s all there - for Sunday morning anyway.
Sunday, August 1st is Opening Day at the 31st running of The World Championships of Footbag. At least 150 players representing 10 countries or more have arrived in Northern California and are prepared for 7 Days of competition which kicks off, sorry
, Sunday morning at 9am with the first round of Open Singles Net.
What’s it all about? If you don’t know footbag… well… it’s hard to describe in words. Hmm, an amalgamation of martial arts and volleyball with your feet? If you’re familiar with a sport called Takraw, it’s similar but played as doubles or singles instead of 3 per side, and the ball is much smaller. Matches are generally the best of 3 games to 11 or 15.
Footbag? Yes… footbag. I know :(.
It can only best be described with visuals so embedded below is a highlight video from The Green Cup in 2008, a footbag tournament hosted by Team Chaos from the Bay Area.
All the Open players/teams are now seeded and the pools and brackets are drawn up. We’ll try to update the status of the net competition here daily. The ‘WFC - Everything Net’ link(s) should be useful and mostly up to date throughout the week.
Follow yourself or your favorite players, get event locations, match times, contact information, etc.
The featured matches happen on Thursday and Friday in the evening, and Saturday.

Registration Is Open for The 2010 World Footbag Championships
Please support The World Championships by registering as soon as possible. You are not required to pay until July 18th and you are not required to have a partner for any events when you register. Of course, the more info you can provide, and the more money you can contribute
, the better. However, the main thing is… Please Register. That in itself will help us help you.
I’ll be back with more on The 2010 World Championshiops soon. In the meantime…
