Vaclav Klouda on Jimmy Kimmel Live
Vaclav has been postponed to Thursday night. Check back Thursday night.
Vasek Klouda is the World Freestyle Champion 6 years running and he will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday, August 30th. The show actually starts at 12:05 a.m. in all USA time zones, except for central where it starts at 11:05 I think, so technically that sounds like it’s on Friday morning - no?
You get the idea - midnight Thursday on ABC (The American Broadcast Company), unless you’re in the Central time zone in which case 11:05 is showtime.
Also, I just heard he’ll be performing 3 short segments spread throughout the show.
All The Best Vasek!
A Reasonable Assumption
Many Thanks to Ken Hamric for sharing this video clip and nicely summing up the climactic play of the Bronze Medal Match in Open Doubles Net at the 2007 WFC. Here is his footage and in his words…
“I have posted one clip from the match between Alexis/Bob and Jaakko/Jani to determine the 3rd place team. Alexis is serving to win the 3rd place title, blocks the Finn team for what he assumes (a reasonable assumption, one would think) is the point and the win, but the block gets dug and sent back over his head. Great athletic play from both teams, and a great match!”
DEFEND!
Patrick Schrickel and Florian Goetze defended their World Championship title defeating Emmanuel Bouchard and JF Lemeix 15-7, 14-16, 15-4. They are the 2007 Open Doubles World Champions for the 2nd year running!
The final two matches were among the most entertaining ever and extremely well played. Especially the Bronze match and particularly games 2 & 3 of that as well as game 2 of the Championship match.
While the scores were not close in game 1 and 3 of the final, it was an impressive display of defense on both sides. As for Patrick, Chaos #8, and Florian, they dug nearly everything thrown at them and kept putting offensive pressure on their opponent.
For The Bronze
The Fins win the Bronze! I was updating this post with score and some comments as the match progressed and here is the final.
Status…
Game 1:
Bob Lavigne / Alexis Deschenes: 15 Jani Markkannen / Jaakko Inkinen: 10
Bob is crushing but the Fins are warming up.
Game 2:
Bob Lavigne / Alexis Deschenes: 16 Jani Markkannen / Jaakko Inkinen: 18
Jaakko blocks Bob for a point to get to 11! Bob powerful service point to come right back!
One of the most amazing defense of match point! Alexis blocks Jaakko to seemingly win the match but Jani digs Alexis’ block as Alexis starts to celebrate before chasing it down only to barely miss still winning the point. Lets go to game 3!
Game 3:
Bob Lavigne / Alexis Deschenes: 15 Jani Markkannen / Jaakko Inkinen: 17
Fins Win The Bronze! Fins Win The Bronze! In perhaps one of the most exiting matches in footbag history the Fins win their first medal in Open Doubles Footbag Net! Congratulations to Both teams and thx for the show!
This Is It!
Apologizing profusely for lack of coverage this week. Hopefully you can forgive us. The reality is this… combine playing and helping to run the event with no internet access from our house, due to technical problems and posting became very difficult.
Okay, we’re here now – at the finals and this is what’s up. I’ll correct name spellings later.
Open Doubles Championship match is set. Florian Goetze and Patrick Schrickel defeated Bob Lavigne and Alexis Deschenes 15-7, 15-4 to go to the final which will take place at 6pm. Emmanuel Bouchard and JF Lemeiux defeated Jani Markennan Jaakko Inkinen in 2 games and will face Flo and Patti for the Open Title.
Florian Goetze is officially – ‘The Man’. He made it to the final in every event possible. Emmanuel defeated him in the Singles final in 2 games to win his 10th Open Singles Title in a row. Flo put up a good fight in game 2 but couldn’t push it to 3 games.
Florian and Lisa McDaniel defeated Ken Shults and Jody Welch for the Mixed Doubles World Championship.
Jody Welch and Julie Symons lost the first game 11-15 but won the next to in convincing fashion to take the Women’s Doubles Title over Maude Landreville and Marilyn Demuy who made it to their first final as a Doubles Team.
More to come.
See You In Orlando!
The IFPA 2007 World Footbag Championships opens this weekend at The Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, FL USA. Check in here for updates throughout the week.
Chaos will represent in force with 11 official team members.
PT Lovern and Jack Harris are teaming up for their first ever run at the WFC. PT won the Open Doubles World Championship in 2004 with then partner John Leys. PT and Jack will also represent in Open Singles.
John Leys and Eric Wulff are a team for the 2nd time at the WFC. John is a World Champion from 2004 and he will also challenge for the Open Singles title. Eric is a World Champion, oh wait… I almost said the ‘F’ word. No, not that ‘F’ word. This one - ‘Freestyle’
. Anyway, Eric, um - that’s me, is also teaming up with Marilyn Demuy, from Montreal, QC, in Mixed Doubles. Rumors are flying that Marilyn will be wearing the Chaos Coat of Arms.
HOF inductee Tuan Vu will partner in Open Dubs with fellow inductee Scott Milne from Vancouver, BC Canada. Tuan will compete in Singles also.
Patrick Keehan is teaming up with long time Chaos friend and honorary member for the week - again
- Cory Current . This is their first Worlds together. I believe Pat is also participating in Singles Net.
Patrick Schrickel defends his World Championship in Open Doubles with Champion partner Florian Goetze from Frankfurt, Deutschland. Flo is, of course, honorary Chaos for the week if he’ll have us. Patrick is also teaming up with Amy Westberg in Mixed Doubles. Will Amy don the green and white? We can only hope.
Partners on and off the court Julie Symons and Alexis Deschenes are a Mixed Doubles force seeking their 2nd World Title in that event. Of course, Julie will challenge for a title in every net event she enters. I think she’s in em all - Women’s Open Dubs, Women’s Singles, and Mixed Doubles. Alexis is an Open Doubles World Champion from 2001 looking for his 2nd title there too, this time teaming up with ‘Tall’ Bob Lavigne of Montreal, QC.
Chris Ott is a Hall of Fame player and th Producer and Director of this year’s WFC. He’s teaming with Sasha Smirnov of Russia in Open Doubles and Patrick Keehan in his run for the Masters Doubles title.
Jeremy Mirken is our newest Open competitor and shows lots of potential. He is competing in his first ever WFC as an Open Net player in both Doubles and Singles. He teams with Renaud Fanoni, also from Montreal, QC.
Some of our team members are doing more than just competing. Julie Symons is the Executive Director of the IFPA, Chris Ott is the Producer and Director of this year’s World Footbag Championships, John Leys is the Net Director for the event, and I’m a, um, a consultant. No, seriously. I am
On behalf of Team Chaos *many thanks* to the entire staff of this year’s World Footbag Championships! From Chris Ott to Steve Goldberg and all the way through! Allot is yet to be done but I know it’s going to be a great week.
See you in Orlando!
