Going To The Show

Championship Monday At The Green Cup

Chris Siebert, Amy Wetberg, Jody Welch, PT Lovern, Yves Archambault, Luc Legault, Patrick Schrickel, Alexis Deschenes, John Leys, Eric Wulff, and Jack Harris are going to the show.  smile

The semi-finals for open doubles are set as are the championship matches for mixed doubles and open singles.  Matches began at high noon starting with open mixed doubles.

The schedule is posted here -> Schedule Of Matches - Championship Monday

There have not been many upsets in the higher ranks at the event so far with seeds 1, 2, 4, and 5 making it to the open doubles semis and the no. 1 and 2 in both mixed and open singles will face off in the finals.

Both singles semi-finals matches were ones to remember with Yves Archambault pulling out a 3 set victory over Alexis Deschenes.  This will be Yves first open singles final at The Green Cup.

John Leys outlasted Patrick Schrickel by taking control in the 3rd game.  Patrick was forced to withdraw with cramps in game 3 after falling behind 6-13.  John came back to win game two 15-12 after Patrick took game one 17-15.

Of course, there will be more to tell tomorrow and in the coming days.  For now know this… we’ll be relatively silent until the championship doubles match is posted to YouTube.  Check in right here for the links to that.  We’re committed to getting it up by Tue - 5/29 early morning Pacific Standard Time(UTC -8 hrs) but we hope to do so by midnight on Green Cup Monday - 5/28.

Top Ten Thins All Green Cup Players Must Know - #3

Players Will Officiate Pool Matches:
All open net matches will have a head official.  When we say all - we mean every match.  This includes the preliminary pool play which shall be judged by the players in other pools.  Our schedule will stagger pools for this reason.

Responsibilities of the Head Official:
a. make plane foul calls
b. when players are in disagreement over a call it is the job of the head official to make the final call
c. maintain the score - head officials will keep track of the score only in order to correct a player should he/she forget or mistake it.  head officials will not announce the score until semi-final matches. It is players job to announce the score until then.
d. return the Prokicker match footbag to the event staff after the match (see #3 below)

Responsibility of the Match Players:
a. keeping and calling the score (head official should overule when a correction is necessary)
b. making all line calls (head official overules in the event of a disagreement)

US Open Essentials

I don’t have time for a full report today but hopefully I’ll get that out tomorrow.  For now know this -

The US Open rocked!  Many thx to Chris Siebert, Ethan Red Husted, Kendall Kic, and their staff for putting together this event and being such great hosts.

Kenny Shults is back - again!  He defeated Jake Leong in the final of open singles.  He also won the open doubles net title with partner - Chaos #3 - El Presidente - PT Lovern.  They defeated Chaos #4, John Leys, and Chaos #5 Eric Wulff, in a roller coaster 3 game championship match (15-7, 11-15, 15-11).

ahem ~ 3 of the top 4 open doubles players are team Chaos ~ ahem Woo Hoo!  grin

The women are back!  Six of the all time greatest women net players were at the US Open to play in the mixed doubles, open doubles, and the women’s division.  How long has it been since Tricia George, Becca English-Ross, Jody Welch, Julie Symons, Lisa McDaniel, and Evanne ‘not registered at footbag.org’ Lamarche were on the same field for competition?  Here’s to hoping we’ll see them more often in the coming season.  Jody Welch and Julie Symons won the women’s title taking the final match over Becca English-Ross and Tricia George.

Tournament director Chris Siebert and Tricia George won the open mixed doubles title defeating Jody Welch and Eric Wulff (15-13, 15-7).

I’ll be back with more tomorrow including some pictures, honest cheese

An Early Christmas Present Rudely Returned

Merry Christmas - doh!

Thanks to Chaos #3 and his partner Manu, Chaos #13 for the video, and YouTube - you can now witness the already infamous “Merry Christmas” play smile (listen closely).  This play occurred in the semi-final match at this year’s WFC in Frankfurt.  It was one of the all time great matches and this play will forever be remembered by those who witnessed it.

btw, unfortunately the video doesn’t show it but this gift was rudely returned by wearing the gifter.

Now, can we end the silence?  If this doesn’t involk comments then I don’t know what will.
