Report from the 20th Annual Vancouver Open

Chaos #7 (Tuan “Disco Ninja” Vu) was on hand at the 20th Annual Vancouver Open to ensure that Chaos represented at both US tournaments this past weekend.

The location moved to Jericho Beach this year and the weather held up for both days.

On Saturday, Singles and Mixed Doubles competitors played all the way through the Semi-Finals saving the finals for Sunday.

In pool 1, Chris Siebert dominated his pool in barbaric fashion.

Meanwhile, Andre Lemaire revealed to the second pool why he is a force to be reckoned with.

Showing that his Hall of Fame tour is having a positive effect on his singles game, Tuan Vu fought his way out of the pools and kept the top seed for pool three.

The semi-finals saw Chris Siebert defeating Russ Arsenault and Andre Lemaire overcoming Tuan “Disco Ninja” Vu’s barrage of mousetraps and shataffs.

Then came the coveted battle of the bronze where Russ showed that having only one cramp is better than Tuan’s two.

After all was said and done, all the players were treated to a kick-ass dinner at Jim & Evanne’s place where Francois Leh told a captivated audience his tales of adventure and excitement. Those who attended know what I’m referring to grin

Sunday was Doubles Day.

There were no upsets in the pools and Semi-Final #1 saw Chris & Steve defeating Russ & Ben.

Semi-Final #2 had Tuan & Jim winning the first game over Jake & Andre, but falling short in the match.

The battle of the Open Doubles’ Bronze saw Tuan & Jim overcoming Russ & Ben in two close games.

In the Open Doubles Finals, Chris & Steve successfully defended their title in three games over Jake & Andre.

The final match was the Open Singles Final with Chris S vs. Andre L.

Having lost the first game with the help of Andre’s amazing digs (he dug 90% of Chris’ mousetraps), Chris came back to take the second. Game three started with Andre choosing the ultra-sunny side of the court. However, early in the third game, Andre was saved with some cloud cover allowing him to actually see his opponent and the footbag. At the eight-point switch, the sun magically came out of the clouds to shine directly in Chris’ face. It was as if the heavens was cheering for the home team.

To his credit, Chris stayed calm and overcame the odds to secure the singles victory, but not before shouting to Tuan about the *beauty* of playing singles.

At the after-party, Jake Leong shocked many when he announced his retirement from competitive footbag net.

We, at Team Chaos, would like to be the first to say that you will be missed on the court.  ...there’s always a comeback tour!

Another Chaos and NPR teamup

In an effort to be more “Disco” and less “Ninja,” Chaos #7 has announced that he will be teaming up with NPR Prodigy, Eric Sorensen, this weekend at the US Open in Portland, OR.

That makes a total of three Chaos/Portland teams this weekend!

Will this wildcard team throw a monkey wrench in the status quo?

Only time will tell…
