WORLD CHAMPIONS!
It may be said that Montreal is to footbag what Brazil is to football. That is what makes this past week in Montreal all the sweeter for PT Lovern, John Leys, and Team Chaos. Chaos Team ‘A’, #3 and 4, won their first Open Doubles Net World Championship title defeating Team Montreal and the defending champion Emmanuel Bouchard with his new partner Patrick Asswad. Chaos #3 & 4 came into the hostile Montreal environment and dominated the entire week of competition not losing a single game. Pt and Johnny put on a tremendous display of digging, setting, and CRUSHING the likes of which may not have been seen since a certain Montreal legend was on the doubles scene.

First Green Cup a Tremendous Success
The 2004 Green Cup, presented by Chaos, concluded yesterday, Championship Monday, May 31st, 2004. This was a special day for footbag net. The stage was set for a glorious conclusion to a weekend celebrating the return of competitive footbag net to Northern California. It’s been a long time coming and this event will surely grow in future years. With two kegs of Lagunitas brew flowing, other food and drink in abundance, music filling all competition down time, bleachers for spectators, tents for staff, scaffolding strategically placed for the best filming angles, and banners carefully positioned; all focus was on one footbag net court for which 8 players earned the right to compete for the destinction as a first time Green Cup Champion.
The highlight of the weekend was the singles championship match between an upcoming footbag star, Chaos #4: John Leys, and the greatest player of all time, Kenny Shults. Both players made it to the final match without losing a single game in the tournament, but it was Chaos #4 who pulled out a hard fought victory 14 - 16, 15 - 13, 15 - 13. This match will be remembered as one of the all time greats.
In open doubles net, Team BAFL: Brent Welch and Alexis Deschenes, came into the tournament seeded #2, but they finished the weekend #1 making them the rightful owners of the Green Cup. They will be forever known as the first holders of the Green Cup, the coveted trophy for which this event is titled. The match had many highlights, but to the disappointment of a Chaos favored crowd a third game was not to be, as Brent and Alexis defeated Chaos #3 and Chaos #4 in two close games.
Chaos Footbag thanks its sponsors, Lagunitas Brewing Co., Tommy’s Mexican Restaurant, and the official footbag of The Green Cup, Pro Kicker. Chaos also recognizes the tremendous staff of volunteers who turned out in force to make the entire event, and especially Championship Monday, a tremendous success! Special thanks to David Butcher, with a capital ‘D’, for performing head judge duties all day Monday.
