An Early Christmas Present Rudely Returned

Merry Christmas - doh!

Thanks to Chaos #3 and his partner Manu, Chaos #13 for the video, and YouTube - you can now witness the already infamous “Merry Christmas” play smile (listen closely).  This play occurred in the semi-final match at this year’s WFC in Frankfurt.  It was one of the all time great matches and this play will forever be remembered by those who witnessed it.

btw, unfortunately the video doesn’t show it but this gift was rudely returned by wearing the gifter.

Now, can we end the silence?  If this doesn’t involk comments then I don’t know what will.

WFC 2006 - Quick Wrap

As is so often the case I have been too busy to log all that I’d like.  So, I’ve decided to give a bare bone results with the hopes that I’ll have time for more later.

Another great worlds has come and gone.  I had a blast and think I can speak for my Chaos buds in that respect too.  We can’t thank the Frankfurt Germans and European footbag community in general enough for hosting the great event.

Patti and Flo won it all!  That’s our story folks.  Another 3 game match in the finals.  They started slow but were always steady and brought home their first world championship in front of a very enthusiastic home crowd.  Congrats to the Germs!  It’s a great story and Chaos is happy for them.  For Chris and Andy, it was a great run that fell just short.  They were surely the underdogs but didn’t look like it in action.

Emmanuel won his singles title again.  This time he had a battle on his hands in the scorching heat at high noon in Frankfurt.  Still, he pulled it out in 3 games over JF.  JF is making a habit out of taking a game off of the great one.  Perhaps he’ll break through with a match soon.

Ok, the parties were great.  Frankfurt is a really cool city.  Perhaps I’ll be back with more babble and who knows - maybe even a pic or two.  Guten Tag!

WFC 2006 - Day 5

We have been so lucky with no rain or wind but it has been really hot with average temperatures in the upper 90s to 100 Fahrenheit everyday.  Some of the stories of the moment are these

Chaos is done.

Johns injury finally caught up with him in game 2 of the round of sweet 16 - in the form of a second injury.  After Eric and John skunked Thomas and Yassin(Germany) 11 - 0, a beer please guys grin, they escaped the game and the match with an 11-9 victory in game 2.  However, at 52 of the second game John popped his right calf muscle, perhaps due to over-compensating for his left hamstring pull all week.

WFC 2006 - Day 2

Sorry all but I have little time.  Still thought I’d post something.  Hopefully I’ll be set with my routine by tomorrow and can take a bit of time out to give more detail.  Here’s the deal, first two days are pool play.  There are 60 some odd singles players and 72 something doubles players making 36 teams.  A great showing in pure numbers and the skill level is higher than ever for a tournament in Europe.  The downside is that this is the weakest showing, numbers wize, for the USA ever.  By far.  Euro kickers out number US kickers significantly.  Right now, Europe is the future of the sport clearly.  And that’ not so bad because they’re doing a hell of a job.

Our story ...

1.  John is injured but hanging in there in doubles.  Chaos 4, John Leys, and Chaos 5, Eric Wulff, won there pool, although there was question this morning over whether or not John would even be able to compete.  It’s day to day.  Send Johnny your good vibes folks.  We need that left hammy healing FAST!

2.  PT, Chaos 3, and Emmanuel are also through - no worries.

3.  Chris and Jack, Chaos 9 and 13, heald there seed and played their best net ever as a team to advance from pool play to elimination brackets.

4.  Tuan Vu, Chaos 7, made a great showing advancing from his singles pool and he played well with his new doubles partner from Germany, honorary Chaos 33.  Tuan is now playing consilation matches in both events and regardless of how he finishes now it was a great showing for his first major net tourney as a net specialist.  There are good things to come from the Disco Ninja.

Sorry, but I don’t have details yet on Edwin’s results.  I’ll be having dinner with him, Chris, and Jack soon so I’ll get them and report back tomorrow with more detail on that and all our adventures.  Right now I’m running out of internet time at this cafe and I’m dying of starvation so it’s time to go.

I have tomorrow off from competition so again, hopefully can take time out to post more.  Also trying to get some photos up as the week goes on so I hope you have time to check back.

Frankfurt is a very cool city!  The tournament is a total blast so far!

3 Days In Bogota

Carol and I were in Bogot kicking footbag for Postobon, a huge beverage and bottling company in Colombia.  Theyre basically Pepsi Colombia.

HOLY #@&*!

That about sums it up.  Now, heres a bunch of babble that may not do the experience any better justice…

Who Do I Root For Now?

7:15am San Francisco, CA, USA and Ive already ridden my bike around the city in search of a pub or cafe thats open and that has cable TV.  Ive been to one breakfast cafe and a standing room only Kezar Pub before settling at the Mucky Duck for the World Cup - USA style.

World Cup USA style?  Isnt that an oxymoron?
