Chaos Coup - Shults, Mulder, Cote, Russians, Germans... Wedding Bells?

Mulder and Shults are back!  Yes, you read correct… your eyes do not deceive you.  I think it’s kinda like footbag’s version of Rock & Roll’s ‘Zepplin @ the O2 Arena’ event earlier this winter.  They’re back for one performance… that we know of.  Will a tour follow?  Only time will tell.

Randy Mulder and Kenny Shults were one of the most dominating doubles net teams in the history of the great sport of footbag.  They revolutionized the game when they hit the scene as a team in 1992 and proceeded to win 4 World Championships in a row while not even relinquishing a set during that run and on route to 5 total.

It is our great honor and privilege to have them as our guests of honor at this year’s Green Cup!

We have been trying to reel in Kenny since we started honoring players 3 GCs ago but professional engagements kept Shults from our event… until now.  How’d we get him this year?  Well, aside from the professional engagement thing and the ‘maybe he has a life’ thing or whatever, Skeletor.

What?  Mulder?  We figured this guy was off the footbag radar.  But then he surfaced on the forum this past summer so we kept tabs on him, tapped his phone, etc.  You know what I’m talkin bout.  It was for our own safety man.  Yours too.  This guy is dangerous.

Anyway, once we confirmed Mulder had resurfaced, if even just verbally, we figured it was time to make him an offer he couldn’t refuse.  A tent in PT’s back yard and a free lunch later we had him.  And with him we figured we’d have Shults too.  Boo ya!

Now, I’m old enough to know who Mr. Randy Mulder is from first hand experience.  I was a freestyler in his footbag net heyday but that’s the impact he made.  Even as a freestyler, I well knew who this guy was and, ahem, I also knew to steer clear.  Translation - I specialized in freestyle.

The details of our coup continue…

Martin ‘The Snake’ Cote!  The Mad Scientist if you will.  We have 3 guests of honor at this year’s Green Cup and no one is more worthy than Martin ‘The Strong Silent Type’ Cote.  Martin ‘I Have More Nicknames For This Guy’ Cote is a great player and more.  His influence on the sport of footbag is immeasurable.  He and Yves Archambault are responsible for creating the monster that is the Montreal Footbag scene with their pioneering play and promotion - star date mid 1980’s.  He has multiple Montreal Championship titles, appeared in the 2002 WFC finals with Chris Siebert, and has won countless other major tournaments.  Martin is also a tremendous artist and has lent his skills in support of our sport so many times he probably wishes I don’t mention it should I prompt more volunteer work for him.  It’s Martin’s artwork that made many a Montreal event more professional and his work also made our greatest event shirt ever and also is the banner of our website.  Thanks Martin!

Also, we will be welcoming at least 2 players from Russia this year and a minimum of 4 German players.  More details coming on that.

Emmanuel Bouchard is confirmed.  Need I say more?  Okay, his partner is - no wait, I’ll save that for later.  Let me just say that Patrick Schrickel blew a knee when he heard.  Well, perhaps it didn’t exactly happen in that order.

Anyway, all news is not great.  Patrick Schrickel, the defending Doubles Champion of the World and Chaos #8, is scheduled to go under the knife this week to repair damage to the meniscus in his left knee.  He will not compete at the Green Cup.  The good news is that his prognosis is good and he’ll be back for the WFC in Praha!  All the best to him.

Lastly but absolutely not leastly, PT Lovern and Leti Saucedo will be Chaos #3!  By that I mean PT Lovern and Leti Saucedo are gettin married the week prior to GC.  That means GC will be PT’s honeymoon so everyone better beware.  I have no idea what exactly that means but it’s got to be significant.  If you have any chance of a decent seed at the event congratulate them now.  Better yet, send a gift or just straight up cash.  Yeah, that sounds about right.  Don’t show up though.  They don’t want you.  At the wedding I mean.  The Green Cup?  Yes.  But regarding their pending nuptials?  Yeah, just send cash.

It seems this will be the most exciting and well attended GC yet.  Lot’s of competitors of the highest quality from around the world.  The Green Cup presented by Chaos - 2008!
